There are so many times I see some of my international friends who are so lonely and wanting to go back to their country. I see them eating all alone and walking in shopping mall alone, I mean most of us also walk alone but not with that lonely face in the shopping mall or anywhere else. They are studying hard and living up to their goals to graduate and then go back to their country or work in any other country. One of my friend was very lonely, his studies was good and he tried to date but no luck also, he felt so lonely that he wanted to quit his study and then go back to his country regardless of the time and money was wasted in studying Malaysia. Luckily he didn't quit his study and he did graduate in Malaysia. 

The advice from us is that, you have to make as many friend as you can, never search for girlfriend or boyfriend, instead search for friends. What kind of friends? Search for friends who likes to study and smart, don't be friends who don't like to study and don't search for friend that doesn't come to classes, the reason why is that they will use you, and you will still be lonely and you will be used. Do not try so hard to make close friends instead make normal friends where you can hangout with them when you see them. As a international student, I made friends with so many people while I was studying, I made friends with student who are from Africa, Middle East, other Asian countries and as well as from Malaysia. When I went to eat at the campus and if I see one of my friends eating I would always join them, they don't have to be close friends to join them for lunch. Making more friends is better sometimes than making one close friend. The reason why is that it is hard to find that one close friend and it take time to build good friendship. Also join for some activity, specially the language activities are nice, I would recommend international students to join Bahasa Malayu language club, the reason is because Bahasa Malayu is very easy to learn and you will make some friends and as well learn another language in Malaysia. Learning Malay will make you feel like you at home and you will start loving Malaysia, you would not even know how fast your time will pass with the positive impact in your life.

Trying to find a girlfriend or boyfriend will just lead to further problems in life and it will cost both of you extra amount of money. Don't play computer games too much to fulfill your loneliness, because it will just waste your life with no positive impact in your life. Spend your time in Malaysia to build your self to be better person in life, make use of all the opportunities that are given in Malaysia. Probably you are asking what opportunity, the opportunities are all around you, just need to be positive and you will start seeing them all around you.

Everyday when you go to the class there might a girl or boy on the way or in the class that you really like, but you might be afraid to fall in love. It is common thing for people to be afraid specially to ask the girl they like to go on a date with them. They have been couples that fell in love while they were in college and then they spent the rest of their life together. Dating and studying together might not be easy for students, because dating is costly, it cost a lot more than you think it might. It is costly for the boy and the girl because they might want to go out a lot and try to make their dates romantic. There are some good advantages of dating while you are studying and it is that they will always have someone to be with them. We recommend students to date the girl or the boy that they really like and we also recommend students to respect each other. Respect is the most important factor in relationship.  

First thing comes to the students mind when they go to university is that "I want to travel during my semester breaks" when the semester breaks come the students say "I would rather save my money and buy something else". Saving money is good thing but saving money to buy gadget instead of traveling might not be a good idea. The reason why students should travel if they have the opportunity is that, when they graduate and start working, there is not time to travel. In a year people gets about 10 to 15 days off from work and they have to work from 8:30am to 5:30pm every day from Monday to Friday. When ever they do have time they want to spend it at home with their family. If you think that you will travel when you start working then you might be wrong about that. It is hard to save money while you are studying because the money that students have is just enough to get them through their study. If the students can afford to travel once before their graduate with all their friends that memory would last forever.

The resume of the graduate student with the sport background looks more attractive than the student with the higher grades but no sport background. The reason why is that the student with the sport background has a lot of interesting things to write in their resume. Employers love employees with the sport background because people with the sport background has the ability to think under different situations and they also have the ability to work in a team. Now a days it's more about team work rather than individual work. Students should try to play sport for their university or college, but not until it takes up all their times because they have to balance their time. The common sport played in the university is basketball, soccer, futsal and tennis. In Malaysia the universities or college will host tournaments among each other and if each university host one even per year then there will a lot of events.

There are a lot of international students in Malaysia, and every year there are thousands of new international students come to Malaysia each year. In our short article we would like to inform the international students from making mistakes when they are in Malaysia. You might find yourself in these situations:

1. You might be offered to do business in Malaysia
2. You might be offered to join some business activity which you have to pay some amount of money
3. You might want to work

Our Advice

Do not do business when you come to Malaysia, because students are not allowed to do business. If you want your family members to do business with Malaysia then you can give them advice only after 1 or 2 years. Learn about Malaysia and then start giving advice, then you will not make mistakes.
It is common business now a days in all around the world to do Multi-Level Marketing or in short MLM. Learn about MLM before you join to any kinds of MLM activities. First days at MLM is very convincing but you will only understand that you were only dreaming during those presentations.

Back in 2009 there was international student who was studying Foundation in Management at Multimedia University. The education system in Malaysia is completely different compared to the education system in his country. He was trying his best to complete his foundation for two years. then he had to go back to his country because his family could not afford to pay for his education in Malaysia. Back in 2009 the cost of education was a lot lower compared to 2014. He was very hard working and studied very hard to be able to complete his study without failing another subject. The sad part of this short story is that he never could finish his study and his parents spent so much money even that they were very short of money.

In 2012 there was international student in Limkokwing University who was at his last year studied Bachelor Degree in Business. Limkokwing University is one of those Universities that helps their students in times of difficulties but not until fully for free. The university gave them fifty percent discount on his studies but yet the student could not afford to pay his studies. Up until his last year he used to get sponsor from his own country but the sponsoring people could not sponsor him in his last year due to their financial situation. The international student was looking for help in Malaysia which was unsuccessful.

Our advise for those students who are in the similar situation:

1. Students should know them self if they are capable of studying in Malaysia without failing.
2. Students should be aware of their financial health, if they can afford to study until they graduates.
3. After knowing the 2 steps above they should chose to study in Diploma in Colleges in Malaysia, because Colleges in Malaysia usually keep their classes with students less than 20. This will allow the students to get more attention from their lecturers.
4. For students who are in their last year could ask their university if they can change their courses to Diploma and then ask them if they can credit transfer all their subjects, we are sure that every university or colleges have their own different rules and regulations. It is always best to try. If that is not successful then the students should take leave rather than dropping out. Almost all the universities and colleges provide up to 1 or 2 years of leave for their students which they can come and continue.

In conclusion students must be aware of their situation and then they should take necessary steps to avoid dropping out in the difficult times.

When students go in to College or University they are going in to new life style and the beginning of new adventure. Life is full of surprise and it is important for every individuals to be independent, depending on others for every problems can lower down your confidence and as well as respect from others. University is the best place to develop independence, because in students have to manage by them self to achieve good grades, they have to manage their times and as well as their financial issues. If the students keep on asking their parents for help when ever they have small little problems then that is wasting the opportunity to learn to deal by them self in life.

There was a person who was working in one of the top banks, and he said one of the most important thing in work life is having good manners. Then there was another person director of one of the big company said the "person with good manners will always shine above all" and "good manners never runs out of fashion". Students have one of the best opportunity to develop good manners during their study in university or college, students can start developing good manners by respecting their lecturers. Students should greet their lecturers and friends. Greeting with hand shake  when they meets their friends and looking directly into their eyes when they are talking to others is the start of developing the right manners. 

Majority of the people loves kind people, being kind to others is having respect to the people around you. Students can develop kindness in university by being kind to lecturers, staffs and also to other students. Do not be only kind to those people when you need them but be kind to every one. Being kind person always pays off well soon or later.

Students loves to play computer games and hang out with their friends, these things are good, it is good to play now and then computer games and it is good to makes friends., but they have to be a time to develop general knowledge. University is the place where students can develop general knowledge very fast because of the international students. In one university there are student from more than 50 countries and this will help students to learn about their cultures. Learning other countries culture is one of the ways to develop general knowledge. Students should also read news and they should also read about the countries so that they can have more knowledge about other countries, student should learn about geography, they don;t have to learn according to the geography books but they can surf the internet to learn about basic things. 

In conclusion I would like to tell students not to waste their time and opportunity during their times in University or College, there are a lot of things to learn and develop. Make use of the opportunity and make best of your educational life by learning and developing things that will get your through life with confidence and with pride.

Group study is known to be most effective way to study, but it has to be with the students that wants to pass and wants to study. Students who struggle passing their courses should make friends with the students who likes to study, because they will study and then they will also share what they have learned. Regardless if you are good at studies or not but if your form a group study with 3 or more students, then you have the high chance in passing your subjects. The students in the group can help one another to explain what they have learned and this will help them to have clearer understanding it will help you to understand also.

Forming the right is vital, it is very important to have the group that is willing to study instead of just talking to one another during the study hour. If the students form a group of student who are lazy and just wants to talk to each about things that is not related to the subject then that group will not pass or do well in their study. Students should be in a group where there is smart students who knows the subjects and have the determination to study hard. These kinds of people will have good influence in you if you are struggling with your study.

It is easier to join the group that likes to study rather than forming a group. The best way to join a group that likes to study is by knowing the students during the class and remembering their faces. The try to go more often to the library. When you go to the library try to talk to them and ask them about their names and staff and some question to get to know each other. After that then just ask them if you can sit with them, but make sure you don't ask anything in the first day when you joined them because then they will think  you are using them. But then try to sit next to one of the person who is in the group during the class times but don't ask to many question but instead just try to be polite and remain normal. Then go to library every day and if you see then always join them, but after the first time no need to ask them after that just simple join them. Start asking them questions after 1 or 2 weeks when you get use to them. Try to take notes in the class and try to share those notes with them also so that they think you are contributing. Once you are member of their group then try to form another group in your own who are not that good at studies and needs help. Learn from the smart group then share with the group who are not good at studies. This tactic is proved to be the best tactic that was used by many students.

In conclusion I was an international student in Multimedia University and studied foundation in Management and I was not good at studies and this tactic helped me to get through my studies, with the overall CGPA of above 3.0. In my degree I could get much higher grade than this and by towards the end of my degree I was fully capable of studying in my own. For all the international student I recommend them to use my tactic and they will not regret.

The campus shops and restaurants are reasonable expensive, most of the restaurants in the campus are owned by the university and if some of the shops are owned privately then the university should give them lower rent but impose price barriers. The students are not reach and they don't have so much money. Some of the local students have to work while they are studying and some of the international students who cannot afford has to cut cost in other things like food to survive. Therefor the universities should stop think that the students have a lot of money and starting thing of ways to helps students to be able to afford to study and live while they are studying at the university. The campus restaurants should be affordable for students so that all the students can afford to eat food. The universities should thing about every

In some of the universities they are no bus shuttles provided for students, and there are some universities that provides bus shuttles but it is costly and the students have to wait for very long time before the bus comes, and also the timing between the next bus is too long. If you miss the bus then you have to wait for the next shuttle which might be after 4 hours. The universities should provide hourly bus shuttle to the hostels or to the apartments near the universities with semester based payment and it should be cheap so that students can afford to pay without worrying about payments.

We all know how the hostels of most of the universities, due to the lower rent of the hostels in the university campuses the hostels are really dirty and it is not taken care by the university. Universities should provide secure and safe hostels for students to stay. They should clean the hostels time to time so that it can be clean. Hostels are usually meant for students who cannot afford to pay for the private accommodation but it can cost students more to stay in hostels because it is not secure to stay in some of the hostels. That is why it is best to give some kinds of security in the hostels.

Some students are hard working, and due to their hard work they achieve in studies. But sadly some of the students that study very hard and spend hours to get high grades dropout in their last year of their study because they cannot afford to study. What the universities should do is to give discounts for the students that high over all GPA, the higher the over all GPA the more discounts they should get, this will encourage the students. This is will be very hard to impose for the universities because the student who really wants to study will always give their maximum effort and those who doesn't want to study will not give effort regardless of the reward. The universities should maybe provide some extra help for those who request for discounts with the supporting documents.

The worst thing about being student is being broke, student's don't have so much money and we don't earn money also. It is so hard to be student with no money, then there is tuition fees, rent fees, utility fees, books, and printing. When you think the worst is over by graduating then you have debt to pay off. This is the worst thing about being student in all around the world. It is kind of annoying also when others think that students have a lot of money.

It is not easy to be international students in Malaysia or in any other country, there are some issue that makes it hard for international students to study abroad. The issues like fluctuation of the exchange rate, homesick, difference in the system of the education and also the language. 

The exchange rate fluctuates time to time in Malaysia, the fluctuation of the exchange rate has some advantages and also disadvantages. International students have to exchange their currency to US dollars in their own country and then exchange US dollar to Malaysian Ringgit. Sometimes when the US dollar gets strong against Ringgit Malaysia then it benefits the International students because they can get more Ringgit for their US dollars. There are some days when the Ringgit gets really strong as high as 2.85 or 2.90, when the ringgit is this strong it is very expensive for International students to study in Malaysia.  This is one the reason why it is hard to be international student in Malaysia.
What should you do when the ringgit is too strong against US dollar?
International students should try to minimize their spending, it is not advised to buy electronic gadget at this time because it will be expensive. They have to use their money wisely which is pay for tuition fees, accommodation and also food only.

Homesick is common among the international students, most of the international students miss their homes for about 2 months after they arrive Malaysia, but once they get use to Malaysia they start loving it here. The international students also start having homesick after about a year, this is very good indication to give a visit to their home town. Homesick is when the students miss their family, friends and their home town. Homesick is also one the reason why it is hard to be international student in Malaysia.

The educational system is different in most of the countries, and when these students from abroad come to study in Malaysia it makes it very hard for them to cope or perform in their studies. Some of the students have graduated from High school in their country and when they come to Malaysia they can study in Bachelor Degree without studying in Foundation, but it is highly recommended that their study foundation even that they can start in Bachelor Degree. Foundation is preparation for Degree, students that have graduated from Foundation will be able to do well in their studies when they are studying in Bachelor Degree.

Language difficulties is one of the biggest issue in studying in Malaysia and there is nothing international students can do about it. In Malaysia they are a lot of different languages spoken among the Malaysians such as Chinese Mandarin, Chinese Cantonese, Chinese Hokkien, Bahasa Malayu, and Tamil languages. When international students tries to hang out with the Malaysians they will be speaking in their own languages which is hard for the international students to hang out with them.
What should you do?
International students should focus more on English language, and not worry about the Malayans speaking in their own language because they can speak in their own language and it will be unethical for international students to request from them to speak in English among them. If the international students have extra time to learn they should learn Bahasa Malayu because it is easier to learn and it is widely spoken in Malaysia.

In conclusion it is hard to be international student in any other countries, but these kinds of difficulties are the start of being responsible and independent as an individual person. International students should be careful with their actions , they must not make any problems in Malaysia, because they came to Malaysia to study. 1) Write a formal letter to your faculty dean,  to the president of your university or to the head of accounting/ finance department and explain why you cannot pay your fees and what kind of help you need, the university might do little investigation to make sure what you wrote in your letter is true, because some students tries their luck. Mostly they will help student with good grades. 
2) Write a letter to private companies and ask them for help, usually some of the companies will help these kinds of students for publicity.
3) Write a letter to your embassy and ask them for help.

Students should buy laptop rather than iPad or Computer, but iPad is also very useful, because you will not have print your lecture notes, all you need to do is use you iPad in the class to open the lecture notes. IPad is also very useful to find information in the class when the lecturer asks a question that you don't understand. Unfortunately in iPad you cannot do your assignments, to do your assignment you will need a laptop or computer because of the Microsoft Office. Students cannot just take their computer anywhere they want to go, for example students can take their laptops to the library and class. Students need to take their laptops to the class if they have presentation or when they have group assignments.

Yes you need laptop, the reason is because you cannot always depend on the computer lab of the university because it's not open 24/7, students need their laptop to do their assignments, for communications and for entertainment. Without laptop student's will have hard time. All most everything is done with laptops when you are studying assignments and preparing for presentations. Even the lecture notes are in online, where students are required to print them before they come to class. Lecturers communicate from online with students, to tell them if the class is canceled or even when the lecturers needs to give other information. It is also not sage for students to go to internet cafe to use their computers at night.

Printers are not that expensive in Malaysia, students can buy a printer that cost less than RM200 or less than USD67, but the cartridge is expensive one cartridge with the black and color cost around RM120 or USD40, and you can maybe print about 500 pages. As a student in Malaysia you will spend a lot of money in printing because you have print your notes, usually lecturers will upload the notes of the chapter they would teach in the class, and you will have to print them. I cost around RM0.10 per page to photostat and it cost around RM0.20 per page to print. Students can save some money by going to printing shops but the Q is long sometimes there are a lot of students who are also printing their notes and assignments.
Most of the local students print at the printing shop rather than buying their own printer because most of them have a car, and it makes it convenient for them. International student buy printers because they don't have a car, and they have walk and wait in line for printing. The difference between buying a printer and printing at the printing shop is that you might save about RM50 in 4 years of you study in Malaysia by printing at shop but that is also based on the students.

Sharing a room can help you to save a lot of money, but make sure you share with good people, it is always encouraged to share rooms with your close friends. Student should be careful when they want to share rooms because your room mate might not be suitable for you. These are the few problems of sharing room:
1) They might steal from you.
2) They might smoke in the room even if you tell them not to.
3) They might bring their friends over, and they friends might steal from you or they might disturb you.
4) They might listen to music loud or they might watch movie loud.
5) They might come late and wake you up from your sleep.

1) You can save money, by sharing room rental, and utility bills.
2) You can make friend.
3) They might help you with your studies if they are also studying in the same course.
You should share room if they are your close friends or if they are studying in the same class, because you will have similar activities and you can also understand each other.

No, by law you cannot, and it also not recommended because you will never have your space if your partner is with you all the time.

Some of the student criticize their university if they are not happy with something, it is not right to criticize your university if things don't go your way. The more you criticize your university or college the more you criticize your self, because you will be the student of that university and you will be the product of that university. Instead of criticizing and complaining deal with it, and the problem is too big then try to discuss with the administration or the staff in international office at your university. If you are still not happy about the problem you have then write a letter to the higher authorities at your university and ask the international office to help you to submit it, or try to submit it in person by your self. Some of the universities are very big its hard to get access to the higher authorities but its possible. Complaining and criticizing will not solve anything instead it will make you more frustrated and it will drop your own image in many ways.

Few things to consider when we are choosing a university to study, of course it is not easy to get an admission in to universities because there are a lot factors that needs to be considered before accepting a student. But the student have to make their first priority for the university that they have considered.

1) Location of the university, students have to understand that the location is important , if the location of the university is in bad neighborhood then it will not be safe for students. If the location of the university is where the are a lot of entertainment, it will not be good for the students, because they might focus more on the entertainment rather that their study.
2) Ranking of the university, the university rankings in Malaysia changes every year, if students choose the university with the high ranking might drop the next year but of course by not much. 4) Popular universities, some universities are more popular than some of the high ranked universities. Check the ranking of the popular universities.
5) Quality of the education, MQA Setara ratings are one of the best indicators to know more about the quality of the education of the universities in Malaysia.
6) Check if the the course you want to study is MQA approved, some of the universities and college might be offering courses that are not approved by MQA, but they might be approved by the time you graduate, just double confirm the university or college.
